Tribeca New Music and the Alternative Guitar Summit proudly present Mastery in Motion, an evening celebrating the expressive power and technical brilliance of the guitar. Join us Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Christ and Saint Stephen’s Church in New York City for this rare and intimate concert.
Featuring a lineup of internationally acclaimed guitarists—Wolfgang Muthspiel, Fareed Haque, and Dan Lippel—with a special guest appearance by Joel Harrison, Mastery in Motion explores the meeting point of composition and improvisation through bold new works and deeply personal performance.
Wolfgang Muthspiel, recipient of the European Jazz Prize, German Jazz Prize, and Hans Koller Musician of the Year, will give the U.S. premiere of his Etudes/Quietudes. These eleven concert etudes offer a kaleidoscope of textures—from the delicately lyrical to dazzling brilliance—embodying Muthspiel’s lifelong dialogue between classical form and jazz intuition.
Fareed Haque and Dan Lippel—two of today’s most versatile and daring performers—join forces in duo works composed by Joel Harrison, drawn from Harrison’s new release Guitar Talk Vol. 2. Known for his fearless blend of genres and poetic sensibility, Harrison brings a composer’s precision and an improviser’s soul. He’ll also perform live on electric guitar in selected pieces alongside Haque.
Co-presented by Harrison’s Alternative Guitar Summit, this performance offers a rare opportunity to hear some of the finest guitarists of our time in a program that bridges not just styles, but sensibilities.
