Wunderkammern LIVE - The Secret Life of Objects

  • DiMenna Center for Classical Music 450 West 37th Street New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

Join Tribeca New Music for the New York premiere of Wunderkammern: The Secret Life of Objects, an extraordinary work by film maker Erika Suderburg with music by Eleonor Sandresky.

Wunderkammern LIVE - The Secret Life of Objects (2014) is a 90-minute stop-motion animated movie by L.A. filmmaker Erika Suderberg that features a mysterious collection of curiosities, toys, and objects taken from American popular culture.  It tells a story that questions, celebrates, and examines the acquisition of objects and what a contemporary wunderkammern might reveal about desire, knowledge, materiality, and our culture.

World premiere performance:  The music was scored to picture by composer Eleonor Sandresky, former keyboardist and conductor of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and will be premiered by a battery of Tribeca New Music “monsters” including: Mary Rowell, violin; Martha Mooke, viola; Lisa Maree Dowling, bass; Andrew Sterman, flutes and Bb clarinet; Jon Gibson, flute, Bb clarinet, and soprano saxophone; Peter Hess, Eb clarinet and alto saxophone; Kevin Norton, vibraphone and marimba; and Jim Pugliese, Malletkat; with Eleonor Sandresky, conductor and keyboard.

This concert re-ignites live music with film, immersing the audience into the “total” experience. You will look at the objects that surround you with a newfound appreciation, animist suspicion, perspectival acumen, and a regained sense of wonder.
We invite you to get lost with us.
